Good News! Glad to hear this is not holding your build up..... now I wonder what the story is with mine...

We too like the black grill. We have been asking for a black grill since before we placed our order with Ford or SMB. How did you specify the Black grill? The giant chrome version is just a little too much for me.

Thanks,

After looking at your photos again, I think I see ours in the background. I think it is not the SMB next to yours, but the one just beyond that with the yellow film covering that giant chrome grill.

Eddie, I really like your layout with the custom cabinets. It is definitely unique and it looks very functional. We did something similar in the rear of our SMB on the driver side. It is great for storing things on top of. Typically, I have a plastic bin tied down there for storing wetsuits, etc.

The black grill also looks great.

Greg,

Jonathan got the replacement black grill from Ford ($212 installed). I'm sure whomever you're dealing with could do the same.

I hope yours gets off the rack and finished soon! Maybe that is your van in the back. Sometimes pictures like these are real teasers. We all want to see our vans progress, don't we? I can hardly wait to see the real thing!

Sdwindansea,

The left side (above the furnace) was designed to hold our outdoor table and chairs, with bungee cords. On that wall side,(and the rear wall right side), I had them put wood behind the panelling, so I could drill into it for some hanging options. I'm an artist (painter), so there are some special needs for storing things. We've had VW campers since 1980, so are used to utilizing spaces. Now, having a 4x4, we will be able to get down to those wonderful campsites that we've been unable to get to before!

Thanks to you both for your comments,

Edie

Yeah, that black grill makes a world o' difference. Wonder if you could have it painted to match the body...

Wonder if the black grille is part of a different trim package. Take a look at Edie’s photo of the lift line, the side mirrors of the black and chrome grilles are different. Mine has the chrome grille with the twin post mirrors.

Edie, I sure like the black grille better. Nice!

I might have to add the black grille to my future mod list.

I believe the tow mirrors (twin post) come only in black.

FWIW, I also like the black grill better than the chrome.

FWIW:
my local ford sales rep. told me that the black grill is stock on the "commercial van" (work/contractor truck)

The commercial van comment would jive with what I have seen. I have only seen one black grill on a 2008 van and it was a commercial van. I have seen a bunch of black grills on super duty trucks; that is where I first got the idea way back in early fall. At that time the Ford dealer and SMB could come up with no way, no trim options etc, for swapping out other than just purchasing the black grill.

Our van does have the dual post towing mirrors also.

Edie do you not have the tow package?

We did get a new pic of our can, but it is still on the rack.....
