2wd e350 - What is the BEST Winter Tires?

Snow time + e350 heavy van with 2wd
(I know I wish it had the 4wd ability at times)

I think these might be good... (how are they with breaking compared to others)
Wrangler MT-R tires 245 75 16
http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/3362736509.html

So expensive but would be worth for the winters...

Any other ideas?

I've always heard all terrain tires work better in snow. Then there is studded tires. I don't do a lot of snow travel being I don't live in it.

Those tires look like they would do a good job in the snow. It looks like it's a tire and wheel deal. The wheels probably won't work for you. You can find a better deal looking for just the tires.

Also if they are Wrangler take offs, I'd be surprised if they were E rated, which isn't something I'd save on- although depending on your van you might get away with Ds.

Re: 2wd e350 - What is the BEST Winter Tires?

I've always used studded conventional snow tires (all around) but for SilVan I splurged and got Bridgestone Blizzack W965 E range. We didn't have a lot of snow last year, but as far as I could tell they worked just as well as studs, and were a LOT quieter on bare pavement. We mainly use our van for skiing in the winter, and don't see much mud.

Re: 2wd e350 - What is the BEST Winter Tires?

My winter tires are Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT, 245/75/R16, E rated, siped and studded. This will be my third winter with them, and they have been great.

I have a 2WD extended E350.

More info on winter tires in this thread.

Cheers,
Brent

How is the road noise with those? I've heard great things about their traction.

They're studded, so you do hear the clicking, but not so much with windows closed and stereo on.

Compared to my summer tires, I do not notice any additional thrum or vibration from the actual tread.

Re: 2wd e350 - What is the BEST Winter Tires?

I have the W965 Blizzaks. They're smaller than my BFG's (265 vs 295) but the snow/ice traction is awesome! I hardly ever use 4x4 for plowed roads. I pass Subaru's and Audi's going up the hill...
