Re: 4x4 Tires for all seasons

The Open Country Muds (Toyo) are... well they have a nice deep hum to them. I rolled down the window for the first time in a long time yesterday and was like "What the he^^ is that sound?" It was the tires of course.

It's not louder than the diesel, but it adds to the background noise for sure. I don't think they're as loud as BFG Muds, however that might be the vehicle as the BFG Mud TAs were on two of my Jeeps.

The Nitto Terra Grappler (an AT) are as quiet as the BFG TA.

Thanks, I had the BFG Mud terrains on the Landcruiser last time around. Put the BFG At's on after that since.
I guess I'm going to have to at least try the Toyo OC M/T's once on the Sporto.. The specs look better and they look good too.

Cooper's look good too. I guess we might hear for someone opinions with those..

Re: 4x4 Tires for all seasons

I just put on Goodyear Dura Trac 285 75 16. No real road noise. 3750lb E rating. Severe snow rated.

Hi SMBDAD,

Thanks for the picture and post regarding your new tires.
They look nice and the low road noise issue is a plus!
The tread edge, siping, looks great and that is a key factor for traction in the snow.
When you do some snow driving with them, please share how well those tires performed!

For now, happy summer!

Nice lookng AT's!
I think those are the AT ones released about the same time the kevlar Goodyear MT/R's came out.
Cheaper also.
Maybe I won't get the Toyo MT's..

Oh what a little time can do for ya. My Toyo M/Ts are already showing noticeable wear. I figure I have only around 6-8k miles on them (van aligned too). The fronts looks great, but the rears (now fronts) are really worn. At $1200, I would have expected better wear. I suspect I will not buy these again as really dont' like pissing money away like this. I hate it when my wiper blades outlast tires.

Re: 4x4 Tires for all seasons

I thought Toyo's wear faster because they are a softer rubber.

Rubber? I'm thinking they're made of black colored chalk.

Re: 4x4 Tires for all seasons

My Toyo M/T's seem to be wearing a little faster than I would have hoped. I have about 15,000 miles on them now and think I'll be lucky to get 30,000 miles out of them. I absolutely love them off road, but not a big fan of them on-road. The hum and slight right hand pull they introduced are getting a little tiring.

I really like the looks of and specs for the Goodyear DuraTrac. There's a 315/75R16 size that may have my name on it next go around.

Speaking of pulling to the right, since this pull started immediately after having the Toyo's installed I am attributing it to the tires. There really isn't an alignment adjustment possible with our SMB solid front axles that would cause pull .... is there? The only thing I can think of is that the guys at Big-O jacked up the front end under the differential (If they did and I had caught them, I would have killed someone) and bent the axle. I don't have any other issues other than a pull to the right though. I've just been figuring I'll live with it until it's time for new tires.
