A Ford E350 Superduty 12' Cargo With added high top
Hey there,
I want to know what the capabilities of such vehicle if it has an added high top, which adds more to the height, it's already over a foot off the ground due to the 4X4 conversion. Would this cause the vehicle to be unstable in winds, on turns, and driving on the high way? I plan on using it to go offroad in dirt, sand and mud, but have no dreams of being a rock climber. The 4X4 idea came from needing to be able to visit areas that normal vans cannot, because I am an adventurer. I also know that roads in Canada and Mexico are not as reliable as roads in the United States of America. By the way, I didn't opt to get the van done by Sportsmobile because I wanted to do the interior on my own and thought it would be too expensive and take too long for them to make it for me, but the site has inspired me quite a bit.
Thanks
Seth

I have a Voyager top and it hasn't slowed me down any. Haven't done any 90 degree, 60+mph crosswind driving, but in lesser conditions it hasn't been a problem. No offroad issues either - check my gallery.

The weight of a high roof is pretty negligible compared to the weight I carry up top. You will probably notice crosswinds a little more, but it shouldn't be bad, especially once the van gains some weight. Heck, my roof rack alone probably weighs more than a top. Just be aware of the weight, and adust your driving accordingly.

Re: A Ford E350 Superduty 12' Cargo With added high top
I have a 32" top on mine. 24" would have been just enough but i like the idea of putting a 2nd floor bed up there and 32 is more inviting. i think the overall weight of the top was around 200-250, but I cant remember exactly. Doesn't feel tippy at all. crosswind does catch it, but its still on its wheels! I keep thinking about my e-350 with a altec 30 foot boom bucket on it. It doesn't have outriggers, and I can boom out sideways at full extension, lower all the way to the ground and back up and the van stays on its wheels every time. that van does have a lot more body roll than the quigley when going down the road.

Mines a 24” high top. I have a guy make make mine in Canada until we have the time to make them at CCV. Which means new molds & plugs hopefully this winter as it’s been an exhausting spring/summer & looking like fall... with putting on tops & van builds.
