ABS light always on

Didn't think much of it... thought it was because of the 4wd conversion with the dynatrac up front.. but ever since we bought our SMB the ABS light has always been on, on the dash.

Normal or not?

Will do. We've only owned our 2003 for a few weeks. I will go ahead and get it squared away. I did a search on the board for the same problem... and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know why it would be lit up? Bad ABS ring sensor maybe?

I was reading on another board that it might be the VSS that can kick on the light if it has a problem too.

Been searching on the internet. Could be as simple as a dirty sensor. I will check the rig out this weekend. I talked to the previous owner and he said the light went on 6 months after buying the rig from SMB. He took it to the dealer and the dealer would not warranty it because the truck was modified. So he just left it for the last 3 years.

My ABS light occasionally comes on when I am in 4x4 Low and skidding down a steep slope, but that’s what it is supposed to do. The light stays on until I cycle the key on and off.

Check the wires under your seats that go to the seat belt / pre-tensioner device. If this wire is disconnected or broken the light comes on.

Is it on all the time? Or Off when you start it up and then lits up after you start driving?

I've seen solutions from changing out the ABS Speed Sensor (one in back on top of diff) and two up front near the disc brake calipers.

Also seen another cause of it is a bad clock spring in the steering column.

NRL, lets put it this way.. since i bought it 2 weeks ago.. i've never seen it off

And the PO said it's been "ON" for years because of the above reason i posted. He said he wasn't worried about it and didn't care about having the ABS functioning or not.

Might just be the seat connector...

It's supposed to be relatively easy to replace the rear diff ABS sensor, it sits on top of the rear diff. The part is like less then <$50 bucks I last recall. Had mine replaced when I got my new diff covers and brake rotors..

You could always stick a black sticker over the ABS light so it doesn't bug ya.. or get behind the dash gauges and block it out..

Another one I saw (applies to if the ABS goes on and off from time to time) was to clean the top floating part(sensor) of the brake cylinder reservoir if it goes on and off.. and/or retop off the Brake fluid.
