Re: Advice On Replacement Tires
Our '03 EB 350, Quigley 4X4, 7.3 PSD came stock w/ 245/75/16 tires, and the van always seemed to ride/drive somewhat unstably- a lot of swerve and sway. I put on 265/75/16s at the suggestion of several folks from SMB West. The first set was Cooper Dominators. These didn't make a huge difference.
Last week, one of the tires had a belt separation (fortunately, the bumping/shuddering was so bad while driving and an adept truck mechanic at a truck stop caught the telltale signs externally- so no harm while on the road).
Took the van back to Discount Tire, they credited me the initial bad tire 100%, and in checking the others, found another imminent belt separation. They also said another tire was "out of round", even after rebalancing- not a warantee-able situation.
So, 2 brand new tires under warranty, one about to go bad but not covered. I chose to replace all 4 tires (at their suggestion) w/ the Michelin LTX MS/2s, in the 265/75/16 size. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! These tires have added the most stability and eased the driving comfort of the van. So much more predictable, and so much less sway. I wish I had found these tires years ago!!!
