Aluminess Ford E350 4x4 Front Bumper Bash Plate

Helllo,

Does anyone have a Bash Plate at the front under thier Ford
E350 4x4 Aluminess Bull Bar?

I am looking for additional protection. Who makes them, how
much and do you still get good air flow to your engine bay?

Can you post a picture of your front Bash Protection Plate


I have Run Cool Bonnet Vents for additional airflow.

Is this similar to what you are inquiring about? Made a template from Balsa-wood and then had it fabricated at a local shop from 2" Channel bar...can view a couple more pictures in my Album

2" angle bar is mounted using four 5/8" grade 8 bolts across the bottom back edge of the Aluminess Bumper, then used heavy duty U-bolts bolted to the front sway bar - they attach to a fabricated bracket that reaches down from the U-bolts and is welded to another 2" channel bar that was welded across the bottom of the Skid plate. Whole thing is quite sturdy
I decided to try designing one myself because I could not find anything from any manufacturer that was as heavy duty & would (just as importantly to me) not restrict air flow too much (many of the skid plates I came across that could be applied were mostly sheets of metal or aluminum with only small sections allowing air to pass)
It serves its purpose for me, and ran $350 + cost of the bolts & 2 cans primer and paint.

Hope these help...
NOTE: The Skid plate was welded together, then I had them make the brackets that would hold it in place seperatly (using two heavy duty exhaust mounts that bolt onto the sway bar). We welded the brackets to the exhaust mounts first & attached them to the sway bar. Then lifted the Skid plate in place - at that time we positioned the Skid plate at the angle desired and CLAMPED the bottom end of the brackets to two 4"extensions initially welded to the bottom of the skid plate (had those added to allow some wiggle room to get the skid plate to the desired height). We then removed the bolts from the clamps to allow removal of the whole assembly so we could weld the brackets in place...I insisted on this because I wasnt sure what damage I could/would do to any electrical components if i allowed them to weld while attached to the undercarriage. We then reattached the skid plate with the "now" permanent brackets. lastly, we drilled 4 holes through Skid plate and into the bottom of the bumper - each positioned to make sure to allow access from inside the bumper, and in a way they didnt interfere with the Winch. Whole thing is very solid, and I'm pleased with it

Occasionally check in on your progressive build, so I'm sure an innovative individual such as yourself will come up with something even better - please share when you finish.

With those clamps bolted to you front sway bar, did you notice your front suspension getting stiffer?

I have a suggestion; replace those nuts with nyloc nuts, get them tight, then back them off 3/4 of a turn. That way the sway bar can still twist more easily.

No, haven't notice anything different on front-end performance. You certainly bring up a great point - never took that into consideration. I'm sure I've been stressing the welds by not making allowance for the flex. I'll be taking your advise and changing the nuts on the bolts this weekend (Easy fix). Thanks for the suggestion!
