Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

I had them build them for loaded weight of about 9500lbs and running about 8700lbs right now. Think that amount of weight would make a difference?

Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

Haywood, we seem to be rolling down similar paths. What were you trying to improve with the Deavers? For me, I feel bad for my dogs and kid in the back of van when I look in the rear view mirror as we bounce down a forest road. It looks like child/animal abuse. Airing down to 30lbs helps but that's really a pain to air up when exploring on/offroad.

Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

My rig rides much better when pulling the trailer. This confirms, to me, Deaver made the springs too stiff--which I knew immediately.

Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

I was primarily looking to smooth the road ride and secondary the dirt ride. The road ride appears to be about the same....

Same shocks, or did you change those out too?

Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

Same setup all the way around. Jeff stated everything else looked good. He stated to check out this setup before moving forward with anything else.

I have double Bilsteins in the front and single in the rear.

The ride has never been bad I was just looking for better.....

Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

Like I said in an eariler post, my 2006 springs were really bad on my 11,200lb van.
The deaver spring were a huge improvement. Could be the weight but SMB changed
springs in 2008 and I've heard they are also a vast improvement.

Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

I wonder what weight John at NW Quadvan had your original springs built to? Since I get the impression John knows his way around a 4X4 E-van suspension it doesn't surprise me to much you didn't see a vast improvement.

The Deavers are more of progressive weight design leaf pack I bet they will handle the added load better than the springs that came with your rig.

A difference in your current weight and the spring build weight of 800 pounds could make a difference. You will have to get back to us and let us know how it feels when you get your build done.

Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

John at NWQV generally does not change the rear springs unless the customer requests something special. He just adds the Ford F-series U-bolts and blocks and with the bump stop arms on them.

Re: Another Satisfied Deaver Spring Customer

I ordered F&R Deavers for my build. I did a hybrid UJOR-custom 4x4 conversion before sending the 7.3L E350 RB cargo van to SMB for the interior build. I quoted Jeff at Deaver a 9500lb final weight when he built the springs. I just got the van back a couple of weeks ago and the final quoted weight from SMB was 8,147lb for the RB50 configuration with pop-top. Consequently, the rear sits 2" too high and has a slightly rough ride (this coming from a guy who's DD is a rockcrawler) but definitely more than tolerable. I just dropped the van off today for him to re-arch the rears to make it level and asked him to "dial in" the ride. I told him I think it's a little rough and has a bit of a bucking tendency due to the lighter than expected rear end. He said he'll be done by this Friday, so I'll let you guys know what he does for my case.
