Atlas Leak

I'm noticing a slow continuous leak coming from my transfer case. Wondering if there are common points of failure for the Atlas.

Jage, I read a post you had written before about a leak from the rear yoke on yours. That was good info on the replacement parts.

My leak seems to be pretty even around the lower case plate. Also somewhat around the sight tube, but nothing near the yoke or the driveshaft. I'm guessing the gasket on the underside plate is an easy fix?

Another question. On average, with 2qt's full of fresh fluid, where would the sight line usually read, mine shows about 50%.

50% is about right, but you clock it then fill it with exactly 2qts. The little black zip tie is probably your fluid line - SMB put one on mine. Looks like you're pretty close.

Everything that leaks from or on the Atlas looks like the lower gasket is bad. I would clean it and look again. I thought my fill tubes was the leak when the yoke was out. In the pics the cap and black bolt head seem like an origin point to me.

Looking at my ATLAS manual right now. "The maximum oil level should not exceed a level that is just below the cluster pin shaft. When the Atlas is over filled, it will cause the unit to vent the extra oil out the breather"

By cluster pin they're referring to your last photo. The black bolt to the right.

oooooo that could be promising. maybe it's not a bad gasket, but just "breathing".

Time will tell, I cleaned it up, and am going to keep an eye on it until I can figure out where it's coming from.
