Driveshaft diameters
Anyone know what their front & rear driveshaft diameters and wall thicknesses might be? I'm ordering some custom shafts and want to make sure they're sized correctly for the weight of these rigs.

Re: Driveshaft diameters
Just tell them most of these are 10K ~12K fully loaded and if they know what they are doing they will size them properly.

Re: Driveshaft diameters
Yeah, I'm kind of aggravated right now because I used a vendor who's big and reputable in the rockcrawling community. The rear he built me is 3"x.120 wall and the front I just received is 2-1/4"x.120. I think the front is definitely undersized and I even think the rear should be a bigger diameter.

Re: Driveshaft diameters
Tom Woods or High Angle Driveline? I've been very happy with my High Angle Driveline driveshafts in my Bronco.

High Angle. I've used him on 3 different vehicles and always been happy. I haven't been happy with this one, though, and I'm paying a premium over what Tom Woods quoted me.

Those would be just fine. Larger Dia. tube helps keep longer shafts from "jump roping" and high speed vibrations from the whipping.

Re: Driveshaft diameters
Just measured a SMB driveshaft and it's 3.5", not sure of wall thickness, though. I think I'm okay with the 3"x.120 but definitely not the 2-1/4" for the front. That's smaller than what I run on my Toyota. I plan on getting into the rocks, so I want something sufficient. I told High Angle this, and that's what they sent me though.
I have been getting a driveline vibration around 60mph with this 3" shaft. The angles were dead on when I first built it. I had Deaver rotate the pinion up just a little bit when I had it in for some spring work and that seemed to reduce the vibration, but it's still there. I have it in the shop now because I'm tired of racking my brain over what it could be.

Re: Driveshaft diameters
I wouldn't worry about the size of the front tube either. It is the same size as the one on my 4x4 conversion from Salem-Kroger. Generally the front sees less power than the rear and unless the rear driveshaft is disconnected, it is hard to imagine all the engine's torque going to the front. The rear takes all the engine's power all the time in 2wd .

Re: Driveshaft diameters
Give Jess at HAD a call and he will confirm the choice. Smaller is better in the rocks, won't dent as easy and less exposed - strength isn't an issue with what you have.

Re: Driveshaft diameters
X2 on the "Tom Woods" they are actually near Advanced 4x4 in Salt Lake City. Do some reading on the Tom Woods website, it may answer some of your questions.
