I like seeing all these design exercises.
And EarthRoamer name sounds all impressive and $$$ and stuff.

But for how long/big that thing is, though....and the cost....why not just build a 4x4 van?
Looks like it only has 1/2 the interior camping/living space of an old Econoline....

That could be decent, if they can keep their price in line with their smaller Tacoma sized GZL camper (~$40k).. That and a new F350, bumpers, etc and you're in the $100k ballpark, well under a brand new SMB Sprinter.

Having seen the GZL in person at Expo, I think it's overpriced at $40k. Regarding the F350, I'd prefer a cabover but like the fact that new offerings are being developed.

Interesting concept, but it seems pretty small. It reminds me of Ujoints removable camping box thing he built for the back of his cutaway, now mounted on a trailer. His looks pretty useful.

Honest question:

For people that pursue that kind of a build ---
--- What would the benefit of that EarthRoamer concept be.....over just buying a pickup truck and sliding in a removable bed camper? (i.e. Alaskan Camper, 4-Wheel Camper, etc...)?

With an unmodified pickup + slide-in bed camper, you have the ability to easily remove the camper portion anytime and still have a 100% useful/functional pickup truck. That EarthRoamer concept looks like its construction is pretty permanent....and not any more roomy as a camper than a slide-in would be.

Honestly puzzled by the appeal of that concept.

The fact that Earthroamers are even 4wd is laughable. They are ridiculously huge and heavy machines. I wouldn't even contemplate taking one of those into the places I currently go. Good thing is, I don't have to worry about getting one as I can't afford it.
