Gearing Question Ford 6.0 Van

Hi all, what has been your experience with ford 6.0 vans running 3.73 gears on 35" tires. Does it feel very under powered? My van came stock with 4.10 I believe (2007 E350).
This will be mostly highway cruiser, rarely used for towing (Max 5k). Will be doing front and back axle swaps for 4x4 conversion.

I ran a light tune in my 6.0 on 33 inch tires and 4.10 gearing. To me the seat of the pants feel was great and it pulled grades very nicely. RPMs got a little high on the highway at anything over 70 which hurt fuel economy but...I would expect great economy over 60-65 anyway. I should also add that my rig weighed right at 8,000 lbs.

I would think that a 4.10 on 35s would be just about right but you may want to throw out if you are going to be running any more power over stock and your weight for more feedback. There are charts out there where you can determine RPMs at speeds with tire size and gearing factored in.

With 3.73 I'm hoping to get decent Highway MPG. Weight wise my van will be basic, 2 passengers, 2 dogs, One bench/ bed seat, 4x4 conversion stuff. Not sure what the combined weight will be with that setup. Also I'm weary of running tunes because my engine is stock (no studs). What tunes were you running?
I have already bought axles for 4x4 swap with 3.73, one of the reason was because I didn't see newer Dana 60 axles with 4.10 gears.

I just ran a 60 hp custom tune via an SCT unit. It was amazing the difference that made just in throttle response and passing ability. My temps never got out of line and I ran that for about 50k miles before I sold it. Frankly, I think you’re going to feel pretty sluggish with that gearing and tire size running a stock tune.

I've got a 6.uh oh and run 4.10 with 35's and stock tune most the time. No issues what so ever and it's great on the hwy.

Agreed, I think he'd be fine staying with 4.10s but going to 3.73 could leave a little wanting.

I would agree with what has been said. Stick with the 4:10's . I have a 6.0 with 35's and put 4:56's , I pull a ton with it and its great but def running high on the rpms at higher cruising speeds. If I did it again I would keep it 4:10's

Your right, the Formula charts are great tools to consider. I prefer to use this one to gauge RPM's when considering my Gear change...
