help needed: specs of break system 2WD - 4x4

Hey guys and girls

I need your combined wisdom.

Some of you might know that I imported a

Ford e350 (07 built but 08 model!) 5.4 V8 - 2015 QuadVan conversion EB

to germany.

Our registration process and all the laws and regulations are a little more harsh over here than in the states, as far as I know.

During the registration process in Germany 2 years ago they just accepted the original maximum weight of the 2WD e350 (converted to kg) as maximum weight of the van on German/European streets.

Well. My van is a little on the heavier side but still normal for our 4x4s. So the difference between my van loaded to travel and to maximum weight in the papers is very low, nearly not existing.

This might lead to fines in germany or other European countries or worse.

So my aim is to legally make the maximum weight in the papers higher. This is possible over here.

But I will have to explain the authorities quite a lot. I can tell them that there is a solid front axle and progressive springs (Agile) in it instead of IFS and OEM springs. And in the rear 8 leaf springpacks instead of 4 leafs and Agile/Fox shocks all around.

But most important for them will be the front brakes. They will compare what is in now and what has been there before the 4x4 conversion which was the base for the oem max wight.

Quadvan brought in a Ford F-350 Dana 60 axle assy. part # BC343002EE.

I do not know the specs of the break system of that axle. But that is not so much of a problem as the technicians of the authorities here just can see what there is in the van. No problem.

But what I would need are the specs of the break system that HAS BEEN in there before the 4x4 conversion. The normal system with which the 2 WD (like mine) come from the factory.

Number of brake pistons. Size of brake rotors. Caliper.

Ideal would be something more or less official. Coming from Ford or so. Perfect would be technical drawings of the parts of the brake and all the details and specs and that for my (once there) original system and for what I have now.

Links you can post here. Documents you may want to send me via email to pkoerble@gmx.de.

Any help is highly appreciated!!!

Philipp

Don’t know if this will help, but you can see OEM brake components and schematics at https://parts.autonationfordwhitebea...ine/brakes-cat

All of the specifications are here:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...esvan_08bb.pdf

For what it's worth, the maximum vehicle weight rating is based on spring rates, not brakes. The braking system was identical up to 12,500 pounds and the only difference to the 14,500 models is the hydraulic brake booster (12,500 and under has a vacuum booster).

Thank you. This sure helps a lot!

I always thought the F350 brakes are bigger and that is why after the conversion you have to go to 17" wheels. So this is wrong?

I see what I can use from the specs list you sent me.

Thank you too, Brian.

Correct. For the 2015 axle (upgrade was made in 2012) the F-series front axle does have larger rotors. Calipers are the same however.

See page 85:

Thanks for all your help.

So checking the links you gave me I compared the brake specs of my van (how it used to be stock) to 2012 Ford F-350 axles (which I assume was built in).

Am I wrong that the F350 brakes are a little bit bigger?

Sorry the tech English and all those inches and so on are not easy for me.

Ja, richtig: F-series rotor ist nur ein bisschen grosser als E-series. 13.66 vs. 13.58. Piston hat die gleiche Groesse.

(Es tut mir Leid, mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut :-)

Not at all! I wish my German was 1% as good as your English. I work for a German company, but all my colleagues speak English so well that it is intimidating to use my German.
