Re: Irritating rattle from 4x4 shift levers

I'm betting the noise is coming from the pivot in the shifter , pull the boot up and see if there is a bolt to snug up or a way to get a washer or some plastic isolater in there.
I just built a shifter for my van and it's pretty basic how they function

Re: Irritating rattle from 4x4 shift levers

I have 120k on my 2003 Sportsmobile 4x4. I too have been irritated with the rattle, but not thinking much about a mechanical failure or mis-adjustment I simply looped my baseball caps(2) over the knobs and it seems to stop the rattle enough not to notice. Another fix I have used is a small strap that I can tighten if necessary.

Re: Irritating rattle from 4x4 shift levers

I use a tennis ball between the shifter knob and seat......works perfect unless you have a dog get in the van and they go for it....

Just noticed this thread...

My shifters have rattled like this since day one, driving my new Sportsmobile out of Fresno.

The fix I've used successfully since then is to keep a rubber band strung between the levers. Works great. I replace the rubber band every few years.

Hey Steve,
Did not read all the replies so my answer may have already been mentioned.

Anyway, I have the same issue in my 2010 EF350 EB. After much analysis and thought I figured a rather technical fix. I wedge a tennis ball between the levers. Problem solved!
