Mid 90's F350 Dually F350 front D60 axle, under a SRW cutaway van?

Hi guys,

Been looking for a while but nothing yet. I've found some inexpensive-ish F350 dually front axles that came out of mid 90's F350s. My "van" is a 2004 roto-rooter style cutaway, bullet proofed 6.0 diesel, with a factory Dana 70 DRW axle that runs a single rear wheel, rear fuel tank, 4.10 gearing, but SRW front, that I've lifted 2WD but would like to finally convert to 4WD. I've built up several suspensions so I don't mind doing the fab work.

Thoughts on this axle? I know it's wide but that don't bug me much, or I'll get it narrowed. Is it way way too wide with the same rims up front and the bushwacker flares?

thanks!

Here's when it was a little more stockish...

Making it narrow is easy. You just pull the hub adapters. F-series uses adapters up front, unlike the E-series which uses single-piece cast rotors on the duallies. You have the advantage that the 90's F-series match the E-series wheel bolt pattern.

That said, many of the components on that gen Dana 60 don't come close to matching the components on the newer axles.

Cool. I'm sure this is covered somewhere. I found a pic of a late 80s with the adapters. Looks easy enough.

Do you have recommendations on how to retain the ABS (or what year I should buy with ABS?)

The 4WD will be used seldom and mostly for on roads. I do some wheeling but wheeling in a van makes way too much noise and isn't very pleasant, though I am close to Moab.

So I figure having the best Dana 60 isn't that important, but open to suggestions. Looking for best bang for buck and 4.10 gears. A locking diff isn't that important. The truck is very heavy though.

thanks

I am assuming the "adapters" look something like this?

Yup. Just pop those off and put some new studs in, should be good to go. Or just by new rotors.

I think front ABS started in '96. I think those sensors will already be compatible with your ABS system. I have no idea how much work it is to retrofit non-ABS knuckles to take ABS sensors. The tone ring is part of the rotor on then generation truck.
