problem replacing passenger side upper torque arm

I'm having a problem replacing the passenger side upper arm and was hoping for some advice. There's a tube that's attached around the middle of the van that runs diagonally down toward the passenger side hub (I think it's the track bar?) that's interfering with mounting the front of the upper arm. With the old C arms this shaft was just under the front of the torque arm, but with the new tubular bent arms it's preventing the front bolt from lining up. As a temporary measure I mounted the upper arm upside down, but that's probably not a long-term solution.

Thanks for any advice,

If it goes to the hub, it may be the steering link.

Or, it could be the track bar.

Any chance you could post a photo or two to make it easier to visualize the problem?

It's not the steering linkage. It's behind the axle, only goes to the passenger side, and only has up/down movement. I'll get photos posted soon.

Looks like the track bar to me but I'm not 100% sure. Is your conversion an SMB or Quigley?

It's a quigley conversion on a 2001 ford E-350.

Re: problem replacing passenger side upper torque arm

Sorry I don't really know much about Quigley's but was told a track bar is less important on a build using shackles as compared to coils. Mine broke on my SMB conversion and I never even knew it.

I'll let the suspension experts chime in here.

Re: problem replacing passenger side upper torque arm

Isn't a 2001 Quigley a coil spring conversion?

You may have to have the bar bent for clearance. The bar is long enough that a small offset (1/2" or so) won't change the length enough to worry about. Just make sure the bend is in the right place.

A good alignment shop should have no difficulty in helping you.

Re: problem replacing passenger side upper torque arm

Yes, it is a coil spring conversion. I'll check with an alignment shop on Monday.

Has anyone else had the same problem when replacing their torque arms?
