Question/Help from the road

So I drove about 500 miles yesterday on the freeway and at about mile 300 the green light came on (the one that should come on when you are in 4WD). I thought maybe I bumped the front shifter into 4WD-high. Checked everything and the shifters are fine-still in 2WD.

The light won't shut off. Does anyone know why? Does the light turn on for any other reason (i.e. a problem with 4WD, or a short)?

Sitting in Zion National Park at the moment with internet access. Replies welcomed.

Thanks.

steve

Re: Question/Help from the road

Bummer dude. Did you try to engage and dis-engage the 4x4 a couple of times? Hopefully someone who knows how it's energized will chime in. I can call SMB for you if you can't get through.

Re: Question/Help from the road

Steve - On the top rear of the transfer case there is a plug with two wires coming out of it. That has to be the wires that activate the green light. You might try moving that around as a check. You can also follow the wire loom up under the rig to the dash. It probably shorted out somewhere. As long as the rig isn't in 4x4 I wouldn't worry. If nothing else, reach up under the dash and remove the bulb from the green light.
Have fun in Moab - wish we could be there

Re: Question/Help from the road

Dave and Scatter,
Thanks. I called Peter at SMB West and he hadn't heard of this before.

In any case it is not in 4wd, so I will have it looked at when I get back home. The transfer case seems to be ok, fluid is good, and shifts fine.

Probably a short like Scatter said.

In Capitol Reef and on to Moab tomorrow.

Re: Question/Help from the road

Just got home last night. Transfercase seems fine after nearly 2,000 miles. I will have it looked at when I have the front seal replaced.

The light was intermittent at times but generally always on for the whole trip.

Thanks again guys!
