Re: Quigley refresh - suggestions?

Sorry no pics. - Too busy with the limited time I had. All in all it was a relatively simple process once I figured it all out. Just make sure you have the proper tools, torque wrench and the space

Re: Quigley refresh - suggestions?

I'm looking to do this to my rusty old 2002 Quigley. Just wondered how I go about getting new bushings for the sway bars van and axle sides?

Re: Quigley refresh - suggestions?

I'm tackling these same projects this weekend And would also love some tips on the swaybar bushing replacement.

The old bushings were in the same shape as in your photo. The rubber came out with a little work but the new bushings look very tight. Uppon closer inspection I noticed a metal sleeve inside the bracket. Is this part of the old bushing and does it also need to be removed? It looks like it's tack welded in place?

I tried pressing the new bushing into place on the passenger side but was having a tough time keeping the bottle jack lined up with the bushing along the spacer bar I fashioned and gave up. After sleeping on it I'm thinking of trying a bolt and fender washer threaded through the the bushing and pulled through might be a more manageable approach.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Quigley refresh - suggestions?

I ended up using a 5-6" bolt and a handful of fender washers plus a random PVC cap I had lying around and fashioned a press of sorts. The new poly bushings went in super easy once I macgyver'd it. The orig bushing had metal sleeve (which was part of the orig bushing)which came out pretty easy after a sawzall cut or 2.

Gotcha, I'll go to work on removing those sleeves.

Re: Quigley refresh - suggestions?

There two sets of two bushings associated with the older Ford style swaybar - the two that are bolted to the frame and support the swaybar and the two that are located in the axle.

The two bolted to the frame are easily replaced by unbolting them, sliding the steel U-bracket off and removing the bushings from the swaybar.

The two bushings in the axle assembly are one piece, including the metal sleeve that the rubber is captured in. These are simply "pressed" in the axle assembly - correctly, from front to back. You can just pound them out with a big hammer and drift. In the shop we use an air-hammer.

I have seen some 4x4 conversions where the bushings were tack welded in, so if you are having problems, look for that.

It is an easy replacement...

Re: Quigley refresh - suggestions?

Some parts you need to get from Quigley like the torque arms and track bar. Others like some of the bushings are off the shelf Moog units for Fords. Quigley can give you those part #s to get them locally. For shocks I had great luck working with Jr. at Bilstein USA for appropriately valved 5165s., got tired of waiting almost a yr for the RIP kit...
