Rattle noise from T-case?

So from day one of my ownership of my 2005 smb (with the atlas 2 transfer case) Ive had some faint noise coming from what I would suspect is the area of the transfer case. It seems like the two levers are amplifying the sound but even if I carefully move the levers (just by fractions) there is no difference in sound, nor does it go away. It is only evident from speeds of about 45mph to about 60mph. Then I think the road noise drowns out the rattle. Its never gotton worse in the 4000 miles Ive put on it. Has anyone else had or have this odd noise going on?
I do know the T-case was serviced acording to records I have from PO at about 38000. There is no leaks and the T-case shifts very nice into low and high range with zero hangups. A visual inspection shows no evidence of anything coming loose.
Any ideas on this or is this maybe just a normal thing with these atlas T-cases?

Rattle noise from T-case?

Mine is the same way. Had it looked at fluids changed, helped a bit, but still noticeable.

Re: Rattle noise from T-case?

How are your u-joints and slip yoke? I would check there. The slip yoke was bad on my '04 Ford and it acted just like you are describing. I replaced the drive shaft and the vibration that was coming up through the TC went away. U-joints/drive shaft is generally the 1st place/cheapest to check for driveline vibrations. That said, the NP205 will never be as smooth as a chain driven transfer case in my experience.

Re: Rattle noise from T-case?

I would not really classify mine as a rattle, I do hear varying vibration that can be affected to a small degree by putting a little side load on the shift levers.

Re: Rattle noise from T-case?

I do have brand new U-joints and while I was in replacing those I did do a good inspection of the slip yoke and the short stub coming out of the T-case as well. All looked good, slip yoke was greased and high quality Ujoints were installed. The noise was there before and after the u-joint replacement. My bad U-joint made its own special racket.
I will say that the rattle is more like what is being described from others, as a vibration like sounds, so what Im hearing is most likely what everyone else has said as well.
