Rim/Tire combo for Quigley

Hey gang!
New to the forum and looking for some info on wheels for my Quigley. Sorry if I'm starting a new thread where there shouldn't be, but I've searched and searched and haven't found a definitive answer.

I recently and accidentally picked up a 2006 E-350 Quigley 4x4 in my search for a diesel truck. It was a command vehicle for a fire department and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It's a 5.4l with a paltry 63k on the dash.

Im slowly looking at turning into it a camper / work vehicle thats completely self sufficient as I travel a lot for work/play. Not looking to make it into a rock crawler but I want it to be able to handle fire roads and mild trails but still be a very comfortable highway rig.

Anyways, the rig needs new rubber and I'm hesitant to throw them on the stock ford Steelies if nothing else for looks and the stance of the van.

I confirmed with Quigley that my van was converted before the shift to the 8x170 axle and the bigger brakes so I'm running a 8x6.5 lug pattern on a 16x7 rim.

I've read I'm more than safe with a 16x7 on 265/75/16s but Im tossing around the idea of a 285 and a 7 in rim is a little iffy with that wide a tire. I'm also not very experienced with offsets and the pros/cons of rim sizes. I'd like to get rims that fill out a little more of the wheel well but don't stick out like a redneck mudding truck.

So- are there any other Quigleys out there running aftermarket rims on 8x6.5s? What are you running and why? And did you need to install fender flares?

For mostly on road use and casual off road / beach driving would an 18in rim better suit my needs?
(I'm looking to run an all-terrain tire suited towards snow since I work in the snowboard industry so I'm not super worried about the lack of tire options in a r17 or r18.)

For mostly on-road performance and gearing (I think I'm running a 3.55 rear but I'm not 100% on that) would I be better with a 265 over a 285?
I know at 285 you're better off getting your speedo recalculated although I've drove a Toyota for years with a wonky speedo so I'm not too concerned with it.

Would appreciate any insight anyone could give me just really want to get the rim/tire combo right the first time so I can start worrying about tearing down and rebuilding the interior.

Cheers!
Noah

Actually, I think you will find that there are more tire options coming in your sizing (33-ish) coming out for 17 and 18. I would bet that an 8" width rim would be no problem at all, maybe even a 9". If you ever decide to upgrade brakes, go with 17" minimum.

And that is a sweet rig!!

^^^ not from what I saw. I was just forced to go to 17's for the rear end I installed and there's more options in both sizes and ratings for 16's.

I stand corrected.

I was looking at Nitto I think, and there were a couple models that were not there in 16 and load range E. But I would wager that you can get whatever in any major AT model.

Not saying you were incorrect, there might be more sizes in non at and mt tires. I was searching nitto, toyo, good year, and bfg. I had read I would have more choices in 17's too but for the tires I was looking at the options were less than in a 16.

So don't let 16 vs 17 be a detracting factor!!

I am probably guilty of buying into and believing an internet post that I read some random place that many new tires would not be available in 16 or at least they would have fewer options.
