Re: Rock rails - can anyone recommend?

RB and EB have the same wheelbase it's the rear overhang that changes

I'm sending a PM.

In a recent post, Disabled Explorers showed a slider with an integrated folding step, but am interested hearing news about it the development for the Van

Right, same wheel base. I knew that. You've passed my first test...

Re: Rock rails - can anyone recommend?

I'm interested. I plan to have some made from 2x4 steel tube, but if the design and price is OK I'd buy a set.

Depending on cost I may also be interested.

Re: Rock rails - can anyone recommend?

Let's talk design and cost:

In my mind they must extend from wheel well to wheel well, be tied into the frame, and be able to support the weight of the vehicle in order for them to meet their purpose in life. Some sort of step would be nice, but it can't hang down or it defeats the purpose. Maybe removable?

How much before we become cost prohibitIve?

Re: Rock rails - can anyone recommend?

Ok with design lines
Take in account that the wheelbase is slightly different between SMB (longer) and the other 4x4 converters (origine)
Provide mud flap support behind front wheel well
Be wide enough to protect the side of body if possible (similar to picture)
For the step it will not be as easy to integrate so maybe provide fixation for a removable step as this one (credit of picture: Calclimber, thanks)

Re: Rock rails - can anyone recommend?

I'm thinking the differences in wheel base should be no factor since the goal is to protect the body from wheel well to wheel well vice tire to tire. So unless someone has opened up their wheel well to fit bigger tires, there should be pretty good commonality between vans.

I wasn't planning on worrying about mud flaps, but is a good point in case I end up in a state that requires them.

I saw the pictures of that step. Not sure where the ones that showed the connection from underneath. That would be the type of solution required for those who want both rock sliders AND a step. For those not familiar, we are talking about designing something no kidding to slide the van over rocks on due to it's rathr limited break-over angle.

Re: Rock rails - can anyone recommend?

Going back almost a year, here are some nice removable steps (though designed for a Pinz).
