Re: Skid Plates

The synthetic fluid may be good up to 275 but at 240 the transmission will start puking fluid out the breather vent. Trust me I know this one from experience. It makes quite a mess to.

Re: Skid Plates

I guess I should have labled this thread "Transmission Cooler".

My van now has three skid plates. One that covers from the oil pan all the way back to transfer case. One for the fuel tank. The latest add is for the Amsoil oil filters.

I made a comment to Heber that the filters seemed a little exposed to stray rocks (rock crawling background). I went to SMB West today to have some other issues addressed and presto! Oil filter skid (pics to follow shortly).

Heber gets my vote for SMB employee of the month!

Ford specifically warns against using a tube/fin cooler likes those linked. The pressure drop caused by that design can result in transmission failure.

Ford requires that any replacement cooler is a Low-pressure-drop stacked plate or plate and fin style cooler.
