SMB 4WD Part Question

That's it, can't wait no mo. I'm flying to Texas from OR to pick up my new to me '03 SMB. Found the orig owner. Very nice guy. I rolled the dice and I came up sixes. Fresh transmission! He indicated there is a shift rod/linkage (threaded both ends) about 24" long that used to come loose now and then (linkage to shift into/out of 4WD (no, I don't know if it was for the rear or front axles)). Eventually, it unthreaded on both ends and it was lost. If you know what I'm talking about, can anyone give me some demensions of the rod (guessing there are actually two of them, one for each lever, but I dunno)? If doable for a quick fix, will pick up a piece of all thread to make it work for the trip home (will be going through some high country and would like to at least know I have 4WD in case I need it). Flying out at 5:20am, so no time to order the part from SMB. Also, since I don't actually have the vehicle in my hands yet, I have no idea about size, thread pitch, etc. Two words: Red Loctite! Thanks folks.

PS: SMB Conversion

If you're near SMB try them anyway. They might have one or something that works. I'm pretty sure it's find thread, but otherwise it's just a threaded rod. You could substitute a long bolt if there is clearance, since you probably don't have the means to cut a bolt head off.

Thanks. I haven't seen the rod (picture or otherwise), so just shooting in the dark. Will stay at my Dad's tomorrow night, so could fab something up fairly quickly if I had a better idea of what it is. However, super short on time, so hoping I can stop into a shop after I pick up the SMB and grab some bolts or whatever and do what I've got to do when I get to my Dad's that evening. Plan of leaving there at 0-dark-thirty from my Dad's. Won't be near Sportsmobile (Texas or Cal). Can you give me a guesstimate of the bolt size and length? Thanks again.

4" long as big around as a sharpie? I have the shifter linkage sitting in the garage. PM or email me your phone number and we'll talk.
