Speedo Errors in 4 Low - Page 2

Anything can be done, given enough time and money.

It comes does to your motives behind wanting accurate speedometer readings in 4xLo. Curiosity, speed limits,...?

Geoff - from what I was told by SMB when I ordered mine is that they put in the higher geared case unless the lower ratio one is requested.
I got the higher one myself. Don't need to climb trees....

Bill,

I checked my Chevy PU and in that vehicle the speedo is accurate in 4Lo. Any vehicle with an electronicly driven speedo should be able to compensate for the lo-range gearing. As could a mechanically driven speedo if it is driven after the transfer case or off a wheel (like my VW bug).

You guy's have made me crazier , thinking about if in the last forty years with numerous 4X4's
that I have really ever used the Speedo while in Lo range , I know that I have in Hi range many times .
Usually I drive by Feel and Sound when I have reached the need for Lo range . Thank you Guy's I needed something to PONDER .

Hi can you tell more about this.
I have an 4x4 labeled wire unter the hood and maybe i can use it to give the speedo the right signal?

You will have to find the Brown/Yellow wire coming from the transfer case switch, and connect if to the 4x4 lead under the hood. From what I can find, it switches to ground, so if you ground out the 4x4 wire you will be able to tell if its applying the correction of not, before you go through the hassle of finding and connecting the T-case range sensor.

Hey there carringb, I’ve been off the forum for awhile. Thanks for the info. I need to look into this too. I heard U-Joint may have a kit that addresses this issue. I’ll need to look if my NV271 has any ports or plugs in it for any sensors (100% Manual, not even a 4x4 light) but I do have the PTO wires under the hood.
