Stranded in Las Vegas

We are stuck in Las Vegas, NV. Took our '03 E350 SMB to a local shop to get new ball joints installed. When he took the wheels off the mechanic found that the rotors are cracked and need to be replaced.

He ordered new rotors and studs using the Forum parts list. The first rotors did not have the correct stud holes. He ordered a second set of rotors. The studs his supplier gave him will not fit into the rotors.

Is there a parts house that I can get the correct rotors from or anyone in Las Vegas who has experience with rebuilding a Dynatrac Dana 60 and the SMB front end?

Did you get the part numbers from this thread http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...hread-786.html ?

There is a note in the first post that says you have to drill the rotors to accept the stud size: " Rotors: '95-'98 F-350 4x4, stud holes must be drilled to 21/32" for our larger studs. Auto Specialty part #DA 601125-D."

If you had the upgrade package from Brakeman I think the rotor # is 54026. They are drilled out 11/16 to fit the larger studs.

Maybe call Dynatrac dirrect??? I haven't had any issues with the Brakeman upgraded rotors for the pro-rock 60 axle. Got them due to the weight of the van. A standard Ford shop might not want to make changes from stock or at least I had issues with my local Ford shop.
You can call TMB brakes (Brakeman Brakes) and talk with them as they are somewhat familiar with SMB's.

I wish you good luck. Post back what you find.

Yes, I got the list from the SMB 4WD Parts Reference Thread. I am using a mechanic who has been good to work with as long as everything is OME. When I asked him to check the brakes he found that the front rotors were cracking - presumably from over heating.

Although he builds custom cars on the side, Dynatrac's cobbling together parts from various years and manufactures was more than what he expected. He finally called Dynatrac and they assured him that the stud holes had to be drilled out. It has delayed us a week but we should be back on the road by tomorrow.

This is the first time I have had problems with cracked rotors but for one reason or another I am having to rebuild the front end every 2-3 years. He was unable to get the HD ball joints in time so we went with the moogs. Next time I will buy the parts I want before turning my van over to a mechanic.

We put 15,000 to 20,000 miles on the van each year. I know that everyone drives on different terrain and under various conditions but this is costing $1000+ a year just to maintain the Dynatrac and the front suspension. Since most of us are planning to keep our vans for many years I am hoping that we can determine which parts on the Dynatrac and SMB suspension are the best for our rigs.

My "token expired" during the time that I was typing the above text. When I reloaded the page the text was wiped out. Can someone fix this?
