When you disconnect your front sway bar (SMB 4x4), do you tie it up or does it stay put just from the rubber bushing friction? I haven't disconnected mine before, but hope to be in some areas that require it later this year.
When we disconnect ours we just leave it be.... and have had no problems

HHmmm I am not sure where we would tie ours up to....
I suppose it can be rotated within the bushing.
Is that the tying up you are talking about?
It just seems that disconnected it is no more in the way then when it is connected.

When I dropped it for the first time it rubbed on something (I'd have to look again on what it was hitting) and from then on I have always put a bunji around the stud and hook it to a hole in the frame. But maybe the 08's are different. With it tied up it kind of floats in between full up or full down. SMB said don't worry about it but I like a little cushion. I keep a small bag with extra pins/washers, a short handle hammer, the bunji, some hand cleaner and towells. I also had to mark the connecting rods right/left and top bottom because them things are a bitch to install if they are backwards in any way. I sheared the pins off 3 times so now I pull em when I am doing any rough 4x4ing. At first it was a PITA to deal with but now I can get it done fast.

We learned really quickly that the hammer is a must have for taking off and putting back on....

Thanks for the input. I think I'll put together a "sway bar kit" like Dave mentions and mark the connecting rods.
I've had the sway bar hold one tire off the ground on many occasions, but never wanted to mess with the sway bar. I'd like to start disconnecting it when I know I'll be in those situations. I imagine it will make a world of difference.
