Transfer case support? (Quigley)

I am reassembling a Quigley that I did not disassemble, and I am wondering if I am missing something. The transfer case bolts to the transmission via the Quigley adapter, though is there anything else that supports the transfer case? If not, I am considering making something. It seems like a rather heavy item to just be hanging out that far beyond the transmission mount. This is a 1994 5.8/e4od, if that matters.

Thanks!
Dave

This is the best shot I have of the cross member.

I thought there was a crossmember over the transfercase for support. The same crossmember is used to support the 46 gallon T-F fuel tank. I'll look under my van later today.

Re: Transfer case support? (Quigley)

Mine is just like the picture JWhitebread posted. The rear trans mount is built into the adaptor for the transfercase/transmission. The transfercase just hangs out there. Hasn't fallen off yet.

Re: Transfer case support? (Quigley)

Do the newer vans like you guys have, still use two adapters? Mine has the stock Ford 4wd adapter, then an extension part made by Quigley to take up the additional length of the 2wd output shaft. Perhaps they started using 4wd transmissions at some point?

Thanks!
Dave

Re: Transfer case support? (Quigley)

Mine has a one piece spacer/adapter between the trans and the transfercase. Of course it is a 5R110 transmission, not an E40D. Some convertors replace the mainshaft in the trans with the 4wd part to eliminate the need for that part.
