nice pics and videos, fellas. cool rad wow. So if you were to encounter a water hazard ;-) like these, and you hypothetically didn't have any beta on the situation or experience with that location ... would you just eyeball it and plow right through? Or do you ever scout out the depth on foot first, maybe look for potholes on the 'track'?

I do not have any pics to share: only this observation - walk the route and plan your crossing if it's a Zero Beta run. Proper Planning always pays dividends!

Yes, and walk all the way through. When you only walk part of the way and think it seems ok, then you end up parked for a few days drying your stuff and letting the water drip out of the engine, or so I'm told.

Some feel it's a good idea to also run out your winch cable in advance, have the controller connected and run inside and to put a tarp over the front of the van to keep water from hitting the fan and soaking everything by going through the radiator.

So true. Some of the crossings in the Sierra's have water so clear you'd swear it's shallow when its not. I watched one guy drown his Jeep SUV and couldn't figure out why he made it one way and hours later returned stranding himself in deep water at the same crossing in the afternoon. In that spot the mid to latter day stream flows vary... usually much higher later in the day.
