Herb-
You could just as easily be right; which I believe you are!

If that's right, it sounds like it's already 100 lbs over the limit.

That is correct as I understand it, but I'm no expert.

In other words in the example above, GVWR=7300#, Payload 2165#, Empty/Bare Van should weigh in at 5135# (before adding anything: no camper conversion and no 4WD).

If the van weighed in 7400# it sits at 100# above its allowable GVWR. Having said that, I would check to see if the 4WD conversion didn't change that GVWR sticker- sometimes upgraded wheels, tires, springs, etc. on a 4WD conversion can increase GVWR and sometimes the added weight will work against you. The sticker on this particular vehicle may differ from what I found on cars.com

Once more, my discalimer: I'm no expert and I may be wrong so take my opinion with a grain of salt. You know what they say about opinions and everybody having one

This is fun figuring all this out. I will get back to you as soon as I learn if it has been re rated since 4x4 conversion. Otherwise I wont buy it...sigh.

Re: What is wrong with a E250 4X4 conversion?

That thing has the heavy duty package with towing options and a Dana 70 rear. The 4x4 conversion is a good one. That thing probably flexes better than a 1 ton and if you want it to tackle real trails my bet is it would do as good or better than a 1 ton. Go make a deal. I say you will love that thing! I bet the whole front end is 1 ton conversion stuff just like the 1 ton rear thats in it. My E350 only has a Dana 60 rear. Frame may be thinner but who has broken a 3/4 ton van frame? Especialy a short RB frame. Heck it may even be the same frame but if not it's got to be a better frame than a Chevy 1 ton.

I hadn't looked at the ad link, that van is actually listed on here- there is a discussion about the fact the fuel fill was moved for safety.

Maybe it is worth a phone call to the guys that did the 4wd conversion, just to ask the question.

Advanced Four Wheel Drive in Salt Lake City, (801) 521-2334

You might also take the VIN and send an question to Ford at:

http://www.ford.com/owner-services/customer-support

They should be able to verify if it is an HD van with a higher GVWR.

Phone calls and questions are cheap and sometimes very effective.
