Re: Winches
I checked the Warn website: $265 or so for a 125 ft. cable WITHOUT the hook.

Re: Winches
Scatter can you post a pic of your aluminess hatch for the duel force winch and if you don't mind how much are they?

Re: Winches
B & J - Here's a couple of photos of my front bumper with winch box.
As you can see, it's just the standard Aluminess front cover with a hole cut out of it for the winch. That's the way Dave (Aluminess) now makes them if you want to use the Warn PowerPlant winch. When I got mine, he was welding the box you see over the top. He said he's not doing this anymore, but they are so helpful down there I'm sure a call to him might take care of that. I don't know the cost, as my bumper came with it at the time. Hope this helps.

Re: Winches
That would be the perfect spot for one of those million dollar LED lightbars. Just use a 12 v quick disconnect for the power lead.

Re: Winches
Thanks Scatter, that helps. I'm working on what winch set-up will be best for our SMB.

I think cheaper aftermarket copies are starting to show up.

Re: Winches
We ordered our SMB with front and rear receivers and Warn winch prewiring to allow eventual addition of a winch at either end of our van. Most of the time when I've been stuck, I've wanted to go backwards and get unstuck rather than forwards and getting more stuck. We also ordered without an onboard compressor.
Having used a cheap portable 12V compressor that took about 45 minutes per tire to air them back up, I was about to spring for an Extreme Air when Warn introduced the Dual Force Powerplant line.
Mine is a 9500# unit. I found a relatively cheap receiver mount on ebay, but had to modify it slightly to clear the increased front/rear dimension on the Powerplant. I also replaced the steel winch rope with synthetic and roller fairleads with billet aluminum for weight saving and all their other advantages. The winch mount also accomodates my Pull Pal land anchor as I described in my other post.
So far, I haven't needed to self rescue, but have pulled out several other vehicles, including my wife's Jeep Wrangler what was axle deep in a mudhole. I figure I paid for about half the cost of the recovery setup with what it would have cost to get a 4WD tow truck over the top of Schofield Pass and up into Elko Park to extract the jeep. It's also been worth a couple of hugs from pretty young ladies when I've pulled their SUV's out of ditches.

Re: Winches
Does anyone know if Viking Offroad is open?
They are mentioned in earlier post and thats how I found them.
They're not answering e mail or phones. I want to buy a syn line for our warn winch.
Never mind. They just called
