2012 170 2500 Sprinter with factory rear a/c

Ok folks this is my first post after reading all the great info on this site.

I'm thinking of ordering my van with factory rear a/c. I also want to add a 110v danhard system to use when hookups are available. Does anyone know if this will present any issues? I like the fact that the factory rear air will be covered by the MB warranty and allow for quick cooling in the van. I also want at least 1 fantastic fan or similar. Is there enough real estate on the roof to make this work. Anyone have any similar set-up. Thanks.

If I recall right , MB has 2 different rear ACs. 1 is tied into the front AC compressor, the other has its own engine driven compresser. I got a much better, aftermarket rear AC, (They are an MB approved upfitter) Proair http://proairllc.com/condensers.html (I have the 941) (they have approved shops to do installations around the country)Mine was installed by a shop thru SMB texas. I didnt want the MB, as its roof mounted ,you have no choice in where its mounted and its placement may mess up your plans for conversion,... and I needed the roof for my 110AC , solar panels, maxi vent, satellite . I have a few friends that had the 110v Danhards and where not happy as they dont have as many BTUs as the 13,500 BTU or 15000 BTU roof mounted 110 ACs and could not keep the 170wb sprinter cool when parked in summer. Mine is a coleman 15000 btu

Thanks K9Sprinter. Great photo of the top of your rig. Did SMB TX do your conversion or did you have it done elsewhere? I hadn't considered using other authorized upfitters for specific conversions but it makes sense from a warranty standpoint. What type of generator did you go with? Any problems or issues? Thanks.

I would avoid the factory rear AC as K9 points out. Many people experience leaking roofs around the location of the AC. Please see Sprinter Source for more info on troubles with factory roof AC. I opted for no rear AC on my Sprinter and instead use a MaxxAir fan(can be run in the rain up here in the PNW).

Did you order factory bracket for the additional a/c compressor? What other factory must haves in order to properly upfit your A/C and power needs?
