I’ll keep you informed Fitz, and appreciate all your advice. I’m not sure that it’s appropriate to put my build on this forum so will likely move it to the Sprinter forum. Although, a lot of the issues are the same.
I am told by an MB Sprinter Fleet manager that the 265/75/17 is working on several 2019 sprinters. That is the largest diameter tire I have “heard” is not tripping the computer..... that is making me rethink the beadlocks I’ve been looking at.
Thanks for doing the leg work on tire size, that’s pretty good.
I’m assuming your doing side mount ladder w roam rack, me too...have you tried getting a board up on the roof yet? My family longboards and when appropriate we’ll short board, but I don’t know how safe it is to drag a log up there. I live in Santa Cruz so I see people have them up there but always in bags, maybe makes it easier?
The problem is Roambuilt doesn't carry a 17 beadlock . Fuel has a pretty nice one in 17. On the Shadow rack on top, I am putting cross bars for kayaks and possibly boards. May have a Thule or other box in the middle for storage, depending on whether I put a bumper box on the back. Lots of new bumper and swing-out designs coming out for the 2019. Whatever gets up there the plan is to get it down, one way or another. I have seen some nice roller systems.
We have found 275/75/16 or 275/70/17 to be the largest tire that works with active cruise control (distrontic ET4 option) and the GPS option (E4M).
Our MB dealer in Spokane thinks the GPS can be disabled and you can retain the distronic cruise control. This should allow for larger tires. They had a van come in with the two options. MB forgot to install the GPS hardware and the distronic worked.
When we tried 35s the margin of error was to great between the wheelspeed sensors and GPS speed. If you don't have GPS (or unplug it or code it out) the distronic sensor won't have anything to compare itself to. The 2018 and older vans had distrontic and worked fine on 35s.
