3.0 Diesel Feedback

Are there any 2007+ Sprinter owners out there with the 3.0 Diesel engines? With their higher fuel mileage they are looking more attractive all the time. What has your experience been?

- Engine Reliability
- Power / Acceleration
- Engine Noise
- Actual mileage

Thanks for the information!

3ltr engine

hi,
the 3 ltr engine is a powerfull engine with no problems at all. up to now!
a lot of transport co in germany changed to the more powerfull engine because of the drivers over reving the smaller engine on the hills and mountains which results in higher fuel consumption and shorter service circles.

Picked up my 2007-based Sprinter Sportsmobile RB with high roof on 4/1/08. Am very pleased with the quiet smoothness of the 3.0L diesel and am, so far, averaging 19 MPG at typical California 65 MPH freeway speeds. With full fuel and water tank have had no problems keeping up with traffic in the hills. Passing is certainly leisurely, though. 550 total miles to date.

Congrats. That is a great looking rig. Hopefully the 4x4 options are more numerous and proven in the near future.

It's not a sports car, but it is plenty for keeping up with traffic and maneuvering, even on freeways and on significant inclines. We gave it a stress test recently driving through the mountains of VA/WV, and we never wanted for acceleration.

Using it as both a long-haul vacation machine as well as a second car around town, we get 19-20 MPG. In West Virginia, that dropped off to about 17 MPG.

We've put only about 6K miles on our so far, but we've had NO problems with reliability.

It is VERY quiet at idle, and when driving the road noise far overrides the engine noise.

If your rig will have a robust inverter, for a few dollars more add a high current alternator and idle speed governor. That way, it can also serve as a backup generator when you discover SMB screwed up your genset.

We have 13,500 miles on ours having picked it up on 4/17/08. It is a 2500 144" wheelbase. We average 15 in town and 19-20 on the highway. It has been to the Arctic Circle and back, and over 1000 miles of dirt roads, carried grand children back and forth and has never given us any trouble.

Our bus is always loaded with food, water, propane, etc. and weighs in at 7680 pounds.

You can find more information on Sprinter's at my blog.

Regards,

Keith
