4x4 Sprinter Tire Size
Hello all.
I want to upgrade my tires on my 2016 4x4 170 long body, with a more aggressive tread for Colorado winters and wanted to know what is the biggest tire you can go with without interference issues. I will be using the stock 16" wheels.

I'm leaning towards 255 85 16. Bigger diameter and slightly narrower than 265 75 16. Sounds like the rear tire cage for the spare will have to be modified with the 255 85 16 but I'm hearing they fit with no rubbing.

When we were at SMB West, their demo unit had 265/70-17 KO2s. Of course, that would require new wheels. Looked pretty nice. That's the same size we run on our 2008 Quigley.

Lt265/75r16 and 265/70r17 KO2s are the same diameter and the biggest tire that will fit without modifications.
These are 265/70r17 General AT2 on Method Wheels:

I would trust that you know. Can you tell me what the fit issue is. Any chance it has something to do with the offset on the after market rim or the width. Their is at least one person on the Sprinter Forum with 255 85 16 on the stock rim and they claim no rubbing. Also the local Les Schwab dealer told me they've done two with 255 85 16. The other thing I like about this size it's approved for 6.5 inch wide rim which I believe the is the stock rims width.
Thanks for any guidance.

According to on tire size converter:
265/75R16 = 31.6 X 10.4 R16
265/70R17 = 31.6 X 10.4 R17
255/85R16 = 33.1 X 10.0 R16
They are only 1/4 of an inch bigger radius so they will work.
Truth is all three of these tire sizes will "rub" just a little under the exact right conditions, but not a problem.

Hey guys,
I have seen 255/85/16 tires fit on 4x4 Sprinters. I can't say if they rubbed or not at full lock steering, but it looked great.

Check out Snowy's Sprinter build thread, he has done quite a bit of homework on this and is currently running 285/70R17's.

I think I'm with Nordicjump on the tires. I have a conversion queue date in 2017, so I have lots of time to decide. Originally I was thinking of the 265/70-r17 on Method wheels. But, now I just want to keep it simple and more clean looking with Cooper 255/85-16s on oem wheel painted black or matching grey white with black center cap.
