Check Engine Light
Ever since the first time we started our 2009 Sprinter engine in cold weather, the Check Engine light has come on intermittently. Seems to only happen in colder conditions but not all that cold - +30F the last time. It's a Dodge-branded model so we've had it to the Dodge dealer (authorized Sprinter service center) multiple times. They read the codes, which always come back to something to do with the glow plugs, but nothing more specific than that. The engine starts and runs normally. After being cycled off and on several times (can't pin down exactly how many - it seems to vary) the light goes out - until the next time.
The Dodge people finally threw in the towel and referred us to a Mercedes dealer that does warranty work on Sprinters of all "brands." They researched our symptoms and said they thought they'd found a software solution, and to bring it in for an update. Since they are 400 miles away that was not an insignificant undertaking, but we did it. They did the computer update and said they were sure that would solve the problem. We spent the night with friends, then set out to return home the following day, a Sunday.
Yep, you guessed it. Check Engine light came on, and the shop was closed up tight. It stayed on all the way home and through 7 cycles of off/on.
Eight hundred miles, and the problem persists. We really want to get this sorted out before the warranty expires. Anybody out there have any ideas????
