Re: Cover my ride - Sprinter Carports/Garages and more

windguy - Unfortunately, my property is narrow on that side and it is the only way they can get back there. I will try to protect the front of the driveway and place some 2x10's around the curve so they don't crush it when they get on the driveway. At least it is 6 inches thick instead of the typical four for my area.

Chance - good idea on 9 feet. I will talk to the building about it for sure.

Thanks for all the great suggestions all! Hopefully we break ground this weekend, weather permitting.

Re: Cover my ride - Sprinter Carports/Garages and more

Hi all,

Construction, as to be expected, is moving along at a snails pace. Here are some pictures of the progress:

Outline of location for garage

Another pic

Starting to work on foundation

Concrete pouring, and no damage to driveway! (yet)

forms complete

Walls for foundation

What it has looked like for the last two weeks now.
Concrete Contractor: "It takes at least 5 days to cure, we will be out here Friday to fill it all in." I guess I should have asked him which Friday as that was over two weeks ago...

****11/15 UPDATE - Two loads of dirt are finally in:

I hope this is enough to back out of... It is going to be close:

We had some light rain last night, which pretty much means that I won't see the concrete guys back for another week or so....

****11/20 - Driveway poured. We may see construction start next week, if not, the week after Thanksgiving.

Tony,
Thanks for sharing the pics of your build of another kind.
nice to see some progress.
that down slope sure made things a challenge.
never seen a concrete truck like that, that offloads from the front.
Good luck with the next phase of the build

Re: Cover my ride - Sprinter Carports/Garages and more

No posts here for over 10 days! It may be a dry spell in the sprinter forums, but it is VERY wet here. 5th day in a row of rain has ensured that there is no progress on the garage. Ah well, maybe they will start building before the new year!

Re: Cover my ride - Sprinter Carports/Garages and more

Boy do I love the look of things to come! I suspect you will use the van more (and find the packing/unpacking less of a hassle) simply because you can keep everything together.

I'm a stickler for putting the van away clean. One consideration might be to make sure you have a hose bib near that driveway. Easier to fill the van water tank too.

I'd also suggest the side door be aligned with the sliding door of the van. This way you can easily access without opening the garage.

If you plan to run the engine much while in there, a vent should be considered.

I noticed what looks like a roof drain coming off the house roof that drained into this area. If so, have you considered how that water will run across new area?

Envious as h*ll!!!

Re: Cover my ride - Sprinter Carports/Garages and more

Finally some major progress made....

Wood arrives:

Builders arrive a few hours later and get to work:

It took five of us to lift the right wall. After that the contractor decided to put the plywood on the opposite wall separately. (good idea too!)

Starting the roof install:

Roof mostly finished:

I left for the weekend to run the Kiawah Island Marathon in South Carolina. It poured rain on the way back and I was glad to see they got the roof installed while I was gone.

Today electricity and siding are going up. I am having two 120s installed on both sides of the garage depending on which way I park the van in the garage.

*EDIT*
Added one more for the siding:

The commercial grade garage door should be in later this week. Gutters go in tomorrow!

Almost ready for the van!
