I found this today. The article gives you a good idea of what it takes to convert a 2wd Sprinter.

Re: For those interested in the 4x4 Sprinters

Is there anyone in the US who is doing 4x4 sprinter conversions - not necessarily 44" monsters but a reasonable 4x4 build?

EDIT: Google is your friend

Re: For those interested in the 4x4 Sprinters

Unfortunatly $27,000 ain't what it used to be...

There is a guy in south africa who is on here Herber I think, and he was trying to get some type of obier-echiner supply chain to vendors who could then do independant installs in everything from a garage to a real shop for their area. Sounded a lot like a franchise to me, but he swore it wasn't. Haven't heard much from him in some time.

Re: For those interested in the 4x4 Sprinters

i love the sprinters
however cant get over the fact that those little wheels look inadequate

and a narrow wheel base

(i am sure we will get a exact wheelbase comparison here in the next few minutes

Yup I think some beefier tires would be a good idea... they do however like them narrow in Europe never understood why... maybe for snow?

Re: For those interested in the 4x4 Sprinters

The narrow design of the Sprinter and its wheelbase is so that the van can be used on the narrow streets of Europe. Mercedes wisely included several features to make this tall van behave nicely during turns and to afford a higher degree of stability during sharp cornering.
