I have been up and down the VC ladder shown in the above picture with no issues. The rungs are flat and thus easier on the feet than round bars and being close to the van is no issue. BTW, I work in a refinery and climb lots of fixed ladders with round rungs where having a heeled boot is a requirement for the round rung, I much prefer a flat rung for this application.
