Low Volume Positive pressure Air Source

After all the hassles with air leak from propane fridge vent into the cab, I would like some kind of positive pressure fresh air vent (like the dash vent system) that runs at low volume. I have the Fantastic Fan, but it is relatively high volume and the rain issue needs to be resolved..

Ideally, some way to either run the dash fan at slow speed from the aux battery, or some safe place to put a small fan and filter to bring air into the cabin. An ideal spot from ease of installation is the plastic box under the passenger seat. Problem is you are bringing air in from under the vehicle, and I am not sure that is safe. I could exhaust air under the seat, but that would be negative pressure that would pull air through unwanted small leaks -- like that propane fridge vent.

Anybody solve this issue?

It seams like adding a circuit from the aux battery to the blower controls would be fairly simple, and that would allow you to skip other modifications like cutting a new hole for a fan.

Re: Low Volume Positive pressure Air Source

Running the fan would pull in HOT air for several hours after you shut down the van.

In my mind a much better solution is to get rid of the propane refrig. Had 3 way fridge in our pickup camper, the SMB has a 12V compressor fridge and I'll never go back to the propane.

- 12V fridge holds temperature much better
- 12V fridge works when not level, propane will kill itself some of the places I park.
- 12V fridge makes ice
- All controls are inside the van for the 12V fridge

Re: Low Volume Positive pressure Air Source

Thanks for the suggestion to dump the 3 way, but...

The holes in the floor for water, propane, electrical wires, etc., are just caulked and mine has gaps.

My 3 way does well in the 100+ temperatures of South Texas. Keeps Ice Cream frozen.

It will hold temperature for 4 weeks while Sportsmobile is parked.

Both 3 ways that I have make ice.

All controls ARE inside the vehicle.

Automatically switches to 110 when I have shore power.

Automatically switches to 12 V when the engine is running.

It works well at altitude.

I am generally more comfortable living parked at a somewhat level grade, and have never had a problem with the 6 year old fridge.

Re: Low Volume Positive pressure Air Source

Are you smelling exhaust? I would first try to resolve the problem of the vent rather than a fan mod. I wouldn't want air coming in unless I had hot air coming in when it's cold out or cold air when it's hot out. No way to move the vent to a different location or would you still have a problem? A fan that moves enough air to supply a good positive pressure would pull a few amps I would think...close to what the refrigerator would pull at 12V.
