MPG as of 6/23 High Top 144"
Most of the fuel involved comes from the same pump and nozzle. This is with all gear, most food and all water.
17.1; 16.7; 18.8; 18.7; 17.4; 14.3; 16.8; 15.6; 17.9 for a cumlative average of 17.03.
Most numbers are a combination of city/California freeway with freeway speeds from 65 to 70 mostly 65. The last 3 were with a Scangauge installed posting MAP and MPG.
The high numbers were 95% freeway miles.
Regards,
Keith

Hmmm, so there was no 22 MPG about it.... everyone who talks about Sprinters (not here, but random friends) keeps quoting this mythical 22mpg. Sure, you're loaded down, but that's a bit of a drop from 22.

As far as I can tell from reading forums, you need to be in the 55-60mph range to get the mythical mpg...

I've spent some time driving the new 08 long WB Sprinter for work and we have been getting approx 19mpg over the last 15-20k usually staying under 75mph. It's loaded down w/ approx 2000lb's of bikes/gear
The 23+mpg a lot of people talked about might have been w/ the smaller 5 cyl diesel not the newer V6 diesel.

I think on the freeways around SF, it is physically impossible to run 55 mph. The speed limit is 65 and I think if a CHIP didn't pull you over to check your sanity, somebody would shot you.
I have no doubt that a mandatory 55 mph would cut demand tremendously but I do not think today's government would even consider it.

Keith

Re: MPG as of 6/23 High Top 144"
The reason the OP (me) started this back in 2008(!) was because there were little, if none, anecdotal mileage reports on the V6 Sprinter.
Comparing mileage with a 5 cylinder Sprinter or a "normal" 4wd SMB is pointless. We all know the older Sprinters got much better mileage. And we know if you can afford a 4wd SMB and want one, or a SMB Sprinter, you are not really too concerned about mileage, or global warming.
My main concern is having ice for my martini at the end of the day.
Regards,
Keith

Re: MPG as of 6/23 High Top 144"
We have 28,000 miles on our 2008 SMB low roof PH Sprinter. The best tank averaged 23.5 MPG the worst tank has been 16 something. Overall mileage is about 20 MPG. We calculate mileage on every tank of fuel. Our best mileage is always at higher altitude and cool temps, and the sweet spot seems to be about 70 MPH(2600 RPM).
We started out driving at a max of 65 but found at higher speeds the mileage actually was better. Go figure! The best tank was driving across Wyoming and we were going mostly 75 plus. We averaged 21.5 going from Denver to Moab and that is a rather large mountain pass! The worst tanks have always been in the low altitude deserts when the temps are pushing 100. The van weighs just under 8000 pounds loaded with us in it. Your mileage may vary.

The "normal" sweet spot reported by multiple owners is 2200 rpm but they are 99% high roof top owners. Denver to Moab - once you clear Loveland pass, it is all down hill! Unless you went over Wolf Creek Pass - great mileage!

Keith
