Re: Need Help with New 2011 Sprinter - like to see one

Many owners have had problems with the Espar cab heaters and water heaters. For more similar posts you might be able to use the search word "Airtronic" or "Hydronic".

Like the propane heaters, the Espar units need maintenance. The latest installs have had less problems but there are still issues and proceedures you must stick to.
The air and exhaust tubes must be kept clear (no mud) and unrestricted (no kinks).
The units inside should be isolated (don't pack stuff around them)
The glow plug and screen should be cleaned yearly.
Don't run them while driving.
Avoid heavy mud and dust if possible. Jeffery covers his intakes.
That said I've only cleaned the screen and replaced the plug once since 2005.
I don't run them once a month as suggested. At times it runs a few times a month and the longest was about 8 months without either being fired up. Worked fine.

You should never let it run when low on fuel. There are fixes for that. Zeta added a filter that has seemed to work but running either of them out of fuel will cause problems.

Look at the new altitude compensator and timers.

When I shut my cab heater down, the last 15 min it runs I set it to high and open the doors so it runs hot...The idea is to burn off the carbon...has worked for me at least.

Probably more but I will stick with Espar. There are other similar units on the market.
