Ordering new Sprinter

Time to update our van. We're ordering a 2015 Sprinter 4x4 to build out as a RB150. Once it's delivered we'll sell our 2005 RB-50 Ford Diesel.

We're doing our research on the Sprinter. Any suggestions on must haves, cool to haves, places to learn more, things not to include.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Not to detract from the SMB Forum, which has been an outstanding resource over the years, but if you're interested in Sprinters, you need to visit the Sprinter Forum. Sprinter-forum.com.

Can't wait to follow along a 4x4 build process. I am really excited to see how people outfit them.

Please keep us posted!

Re: Ordering new Sprinter

I have really liked having the blind spot monitoring system. It comes with the optional safety package first offered for the 2014's. Lights in the side mirrors turn on if another car is driving beside you, and the van beeps if you start to change lanes with someone in the blind spot. Very handy, especially for vans without a lot of windows down the side or in the rear.

The package also includes the lane departure system, which beeps if you stray outside of your marked lane. I have found this to be more annoying than anything else -- I often go to the edge of a lane if driving around a curve on a rural road or making room for oncoming big rigs. The alerts can be disabled if desired. The package also beeps if you're close to hitting someone in front of you, and apparently dims your high beams when there is oncoming traffic (I have never seen it in action).

I stopped short of getting the Parktronics system because it was substantially more money and I wasn't using the van in many urban settings. If you drive with a passenger, they can always jump out and guide you into that parallel parking space for free! Same deal with the backup camera.
