Sliding door glass - anyone use the 50x25 from SMB?

Having the unfortunate luck to shatter the window in my sliding door yesterday, I am thinking of a way to make it better.

Edging the lawn, something I have done many times with the Sprinter parked in the driveway, the edger threw a stone (never found it) from 28 feet away and shattered the glasss and frightening my poor dog! I couldn't believe it

Now I am wondering if the 50x25 awning widow will work as a replacement (I know some cutting will be necessary). That way both windows on that side would match. I am calling SMB tomorrow to find out.

Did any SMB Sprinter owners get the door with no glass and add a window? If so, what size?

I'll keep you posted.

Regards,

Keith

Wow, bad luck!

Not sure of sizes but when my brother showed up to pick up his Sprinter the windows were wrong- that is they were in the wrong places, so the SMB guys just popped them out, rearranged them and popped them back in. He described it as a 10 minute fix... not sure if the door was involved however.

Re: Sliding door glass - anyone use the 50x25 from SMB?

We had the 50 by 25 awning window put on the driver side because it matches the stock slider window. It is the only major disappointment on our entire build. The window is not flush with the body of the van. The top is about 1/2 inch out and the bottom about 1 inch. It looks like the awning windows are open all the time. We had a tech at SMB look at it and he thought it was ok. It just bugs me! We are going to take it back again, maybe have a stock window put in. We never open the awnings because we have plenty of air with the Penthouse windows. The window itself is fairly nice. Just a thought.

I'll be in Fresno Wednesday having a CR Laurence window installed in the sliding door. Hopefully it will match the other CR Laurence windows I have. A picture of it here, http://www.ourexcellentadventures.com/2 ... sno-again/

Right now, I am trying to get the #$(#$(#& weather striping off that was under the original window. I may take it to a repair shop and ask them to remove it.

Regards,

Keith

That window looks just like ours in reverse. I hope it fits better. Let us know how it turns out. If it fits flush with the body of the van we will most likely take our van back for a refit. Thanks for the info.

It fit flush everywhere except the rear side. I think that may have had something to do with the weatherstripping we did not remove completely. It was almost impossible to get off. If I was doing it again I would just wire brush it off and then spot paint it. The only place it would show is when the awning window is open.

I had a left over piece of rubber that went on the original window in the same place (it must have not been flush either) and it worked great covering the gap.

I have some pictures on my site. http://www.ourexcellentadventures.com

Your window fits really nice. The rear facing side is meant to match with the full size back window and should have a gap. No problem. Ours is not even close. We need to talk to SMB! Thanks for the pics. Other than the window we love our van and enjoy exploring with it. The window does not leak or make noise the look of it just bugs me. Kathy and I hope to make it to the meet and greet in the fall. See you then. By the way, nice dog.
