SMB Sprinter rental video review from Death Valley

I've been meaning to post this video we made for friends and family last March. We rented this Sprinter SMB from CamperVan North America in Las Vegas and travelled to Death Valley for a week of camping. We had only just learned about Sportsmobiles a few months before and had pretty much decided we had to have one, but we thought it prudent to rent one for a week as "proof of concept" that van based camping was right for us. Our background is more self propelled camping, mainly canoe and sea kayak.

We were so impressed we made this video tour of the rig while we were out camping at Lee's Flat. We bought our SMB 6 weeks later.

thanks for sharing - interesting video.

On CamperVan North America's website, they now have a Dodge Promaster as their full size rental.
Wonder why they switched from the Sprinter. Maybe because their current Sprinters are Dodge versions and they want to stick with Dodge. I'm assuming SMBW did the Promaster conversion.

Nice video! We rented a similar unit from Campervan North America for a one week tour of the Grand Circle route out of Las Vegas. Similar layout but equipped with the Wallas marine diesel heater/cooker and a Thetford cassette toilet rather than the traditional blackwater tank.

We liked it enough we also bought our SMB Sprinter a few weeks later. Not as fully equipped as the rental unit but works well enough for us.

Chatting with Campervan NA owner Bob Swan while he drove us to the airport he mentioned that Sportsmobile Texas converted the Sprinter (and new Promaster) units while SMB West did the small Ford Transit Connect upfits.

The Promasters fill a new slot in the Campervan North America fleet, below the 20 and 24 ft fully equipped Sprinters but above the little Transit Connect mini-campers. My understanding is they sleep four in an 18 ft Promaster by skipping the bathroom, queen bed, and larger kitchen facilities of the Sprinters.

Nice video. I think when they come out with the all wheel drive models it will fill the open gap many are looking for.
