Sprinter 3500--dual rear wheels

Anyone build on this body? Can it be done? The wheel wells must be wider; what effect would that have?

Dual rear wheels are listed as an option on the SMB 'Build Your Own' worksheets.

Thanks for that information. Do you know if anyone has actually done it? I'd love to have the extra carrying capacity but am concerned about what cupboards i can safely place over those wheel wells.

AFIK, they're just wider, you give up interior cupboard space. It's a good look for a Sprinter to sport duallys.

I need the dual wheels for the weight I intend to carry. If you think that looks good, I'm fine with that.

Re: Sprinter 3500--dual rear wheels

Most mainstream RV manufacturers that make a Sprinter based RV now use the 3500 platform so that's a pretty popular chassis at this point. Make sure that you get the 3.92 (AR2) rear axle ratio and not the 4.18 (AR3) ratio that comes standard with the 3500 chassis; the higher ratio is used for towing. I highly recommend the ordering guide located here:

There are also several threads over on Sprinter-Source.com that discuss ordering options.
