Sprinter 4x4 - anything I should know before buying?

Hi guys,

Apologies for the vague nature of my post but I've been offered a great deal on a Sprinter 4x4 van that I'm planning on taking.

I haven't had a sprinter since 2004 when I had one in the UK, so I'm super far out of the loop with them. I'm replacing a 2014 E-250 which I hated doing milage in.

I'll be using it for a mixture of work and play and uplifting it myself. I ski/snowboard, dirt bike and cycle with buddies so it'll be a pretty basic build-out that offers some creature comforts for road trips but retains a lot of storage.

The one I'm looking at is a 170" 2500, which seems massive, but I'm not looking at overland adventures or anything - I have a Jeep for that. Not planning on towing or anything so I figured the 2500 was a smarter play for comfort?

Anything I should know or be aware of before taking the plunge?

Factory 4x4? Or aftermarket like Whitefeather?

Apologies, I should have been clearer. It's a factory 4x4.

It will be great until it breaks down.

It will probably break down.

If it does, do yourself a favor and be near a Benz or Freightliner dealer and make sure you have a recently deceased rich uncle.

They are great vehicles until they break down.

It might not ever break down.

Just do it. I wish I had a van with that much space. I would do my own version of an Outside Van build.

So you're saying they're reliable?

Stu, we love ours. Worth looking at the Van Compass suspension upgrades. They make the ride that much better. Good luck.

TLG and Fitz above have had awesome luck with theirs. I would love one but I'm a bit afraid of it cooking some electronic sensor made of unobtanium in the middle of the Saline Valley, which is where I want to be able to take a van.

Truth is, with their popularity, the service and repair networks are only getting better. There are millions of them on the road in fleet use.

Go for it if you can! Post lots of pics.
