Super Tapedeck Theft Protection

My brother's 2006 SMB Sprinter has a tape deck, clearly a high theft item as it plays vintage cassettes... anyway, he disconnected his battery on the trip out here and the radio demands a 5-digit security code. 12345 (Sprinter Factory) doesn't work, and he can't imagine why he would have set it to anything else. Despite that it's now locked, making him wait 10 minutes or something each time he starts the van.

So... help me impress him with the forum, how do we reset it to factory or hack it? Ideally something that doesn't involve the dealer since it's about an hour away.

Have you got and or checked the user manual. They should have put a card in there with the radio code on it.

Found the following here: edmunds.com

call this number 1-800-926-8254 and ask to be connected to the parts department. Give them the last 8 digits of your Vin number and they would be glad to accommodate you. I got mine this way.
Don't have a Sprinter so I can't check the validity of the info.

Re: Super Tapedeck Theft Protection

Got it. I think it was Berry Sprinter, a Sprinter dealer from the phone conversation. They were totally cool about it- when I realized the 800# was a dealer I imagined at the least a heavy sigh from being asked about yet another radio code, but the guy didn't have any issue punching up the VIN and giving me the code.

Berry also has a published PDF, but it doesn't go as far as a late-year 2006 VIN (apparently), so for us it was the phone number that did it.

This topic is now about how stupid it is to have a unique 5 digit PIN for a tape deck which is also (I'm told) printed on the back of the very radio unit itself.

Re: Super Tapedeck Theft Protection

Just checked out his web page. The Sprinter owners on the forum might find it of use.
