I had the same problem with cornering. Going up Emory Pass on HWY 152 to Silver City, NM. At every turn the brakes would come on, until it went into trouble mode and was disabled. The only problem with that was with no ABS, I almost rear ended a shuttle van at Sky Harbor Airport a few days later.

I have most of the handling and electronic stability issues resolved and I'm still not sure if think this project was worth all the headaches.

A factory Sprinter 4x4 is definitely the easiest route. If you go with an up-fitter, make sure they are a reputable company that will provide you with excellent customer support, otherwise your dream could turn into a nightmare.

Looks like a great destination: do you think I can make the Tincup with a 170 extended? I'm not so much worried about the wheelbase, but the rear overhang (departure angle) worries me a bit.
(a perfect day could be ruined by an LP tank that's dangling from the rear end...)

I don't think I'd try it with a 170" wheelbase. The west side of the pass has been getting really torn up by the ATV and side by side crowd over the last few years.
But you should have no problem making it to Mirror Lake Campground from the west side by way of Tin Cup. You can always walk from there and see if it's worth a try.
Oh, and watch out for these guys. He was 3/4" mile up from the lake when we were there.
