Yeah, I can't imagine Quigley is too happy about the Transit in AWD. That's going to seriously impact their business. Maybe they will be more willing to start converting older Econolines again...

Remember, Ford's MO on the Transit is a 'world vehicle' or whatever they call it. The AWD system coming here is probably the same one they've been selling across the pond for a few years. I don't know anything about it. I just see red when I think about the fact that an AMERICAN car company doesn't offer their best in AMERICA. Freakin' idiots. Perhaps they're seeing the light.

I'm just not a fan of any gasoline engine that has a turbo--so to me that makes the Ecoboost a nightmare.
I'm sure they've greatly improved over time and perhaps they're the best and only way for quite a few, just not me.
They seem to be one more potential thing to go bad that aren't easily DIY repaired when/if they do act up. Then again they might go 300K miles completely trouble free. Reliability and (relative) ease of repair at tops on my list of wants.
As I say I'm probably in the minority about not lovin' turbo's.

I've read the new diesel won't be available with the AWD option. Hopefully that won't be the case. It will be interesting to see what the configurator looks like and what options will be available together.

That is the case. No diesel awd.
Gas turbo issues died in the 1990s. Now just about every brand uses them without issues. Let the past die.
Wifey is gonna want one of these when she hears they are available. E350 EB drives like an old truck.

Chevy/GMC used to offer an AWD option, but was cancelled some years ago. But I suppose they could bring it back if AWD Transit sales are strong.
A quick search on Autotrader indicates 2014 was the last year. 1500 series.

Is there any merit to the rumor that Ford is phasing out cars and will stick to trucks, vans, etc?

Ford has announced it will cease making sedans. They will keep making the Mustang, and some crossover version of the Focus.
SUVs and trucks are all most people buy anymore.

The killer features here are the adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane assist, and the associated safety features (the sensors used for ACC enable all sorts of other safety features). After driving a rental with ACC a about 5 years ago I swore I'd never buy another new vehicle without it after the rental car saved me from read ending another car two miles outside of the Milan airport. For anyone that drives long distances these features are mandatory IMHO.
