Aluminess bumper with factory Back up camera and sensor issues?

Hi all,

Does anyone have a factory back up camera AND back up sensor set up on their Aluminess rear bumper with spare or galley box mounted?

I have a 2014 E350 and would hate to loose these safety options if I were to install a rear bumper.

I would probably keep the right side clear of anything so that the back up camera (in the license plate area) can do its job, and mount the spare or box on the left. Does anyone know if this would still hinder camera view?

Ive also been warned that a spare tire mounted could prematurely set off the back up sensors....Aluminess said I might be able to rotate the sensor 90 degrees to avoid sensing of the tire. Anyone find a fix for having a spare/box mounted?

Thanks!

Not the factory backup camera/sensors but I had sensors installed on my Aluminess bumper & a backup camera installed under the deluxe box and both work without issue. They were able to adjust the sensors to deal with the extra length of the tire & box hanging off of the back.

Sensors

I had the rear bumper and galley box installed and it definitely is an issue on the sensors. Also, the wiring was shortened due to the Aluminess bumper sticking out farther than the factory bumper; making the rear compartment difficult to use due the the harness.

I'm getting ready to install a backup cam but thinking I may have to go topside instead of the license plate mount.

I had a rear camera installed while my van was being built at SMB & they mounted the camera underneath the Deluxe box on the rear swingarm. No issues so far. Having bikes mounted on the rear hitch does block some of the view though.

what method did you use to remove the top hinge pin? I'm doing mine tomorrow. Did you ever correct the sensor issue?

If you mean removing the factory hinge pin it's not easy. You need to drill it out some from below (carefully) and then pop it out with a pneumatic hammer with a pin bit. If you try to do this with hand tools you'll suffer.

Works okay with a BFH, but you gotta get it moving accurately.

I don't have the stock backup camera, but this aluminum license plate frame off amazon is a nice alternative for mounting below with the gallery box + spare tire. Could be a nice economical alternative to the stock one...
